FastGIS Privacy Policy

Last updated: 2026-05-23

This Privacy Policy describes how the FastGIS mobile app ("FastGIS", "the App", "we", "us") handles your information when you use it on iOS.

FastGIS is published by Massimo Di Stefano, an individual developer based in Italy. You can contact us at epiesasha@me.com.

1. Summary

  • We do not sell your data.
  • We do not use third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking SDKs.
  • Data you create in the App (locations, waypoints, photos, video, audio recordings, notes) is stored on your device. It is only transmitted to a FastGIS server when you choose to sign in and sync.
  • All network communication uses HTTPS.

2. Information we collect

2.1 Location data

If you grant location permission, FastGIS uses your device location to:

  • Show your position on the map.
  • Compute turn-by-turn navigation along routes you request.
  • Tag field samples (photos, video, audio, notes) you choose to capture with their location.

If you grant "Always" location permission, FastGIS continues to record your location while the screen is locked or the App is in the background. This is required for motorcycle navigation and for hands-free Siri commands to keep working when you put the phone away.

Location data is stored locally on your device. It is transmitted to your FastGIS server only when you choose to sync a field session or publish a route.

2.2 Field samples (photos, video, audio, notes)

The App can capture:

  • Still photos and video from your device camera.
  • Audio recordings (including hands-free voice notes triggered by Siri).
  • Text notes and waypoints.

These are stored on your device. They are uploaded to your FastGIS server only when you explicitly sync or publish a session.

2.3 Device motion

The App reads device motion sensors (accelerometer, gyroscope) on-device only to detect screen orientation and compute pitch and roll for the heads-up navigation display. Motion data is never transmitted off the device.

2.4 Account credentials

If you sign in to a FastGIS server, your server URL, API key, and other connection settings are stored in iOS Secure Storage (Keychain) on your device. They are not transmitted anywhere except to the server you are signing in to.

2.5 Information we do not collect

FastGIS does not collect:

  • Advertising identifiers (IDFA).
  • Analytics or telemetry about your usage.
  • Crash reports sent to third parties.
  • Contacts, calendars, health, or financial data.

3. Data shared with your FastGIS server

When you choose to sync, the following may be transmitted to the FastGIS server you have configured:

  • Your captured field samples (photos, video, audio, notes, GPS tracks).
  • Vector edits you commit (added, updated, or deleted features).
  • Routes you publish.

The FastGIS server is operated by you or your organization, not by us. Once data reaches that server, its handling is governed by that server operator's policies.

4. Data shared with third parties

FastGIS does not share your data with third parties for marketing, analytics, or advertising purposes.

The App uses the following third-party services strictly for their stated technical purpose, with no behavioral tracking:

  • MapLibre + OpenStreetMap-style raster/vector tiles — to render the map. Standard tile-server requests include your viewport coordinates and zoom level so the server can return the correct tiles.
  • Valhalla routing engine — runs on-device for offline routing. No data is sent to a third party for offline routes.
  • Apple SiriKit / App Intents — voice commands are processed by Apple per Apple's privacy policy.

5. Children

FastGIS is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

6. Your rights

Because the App stores your data locally and on a FastGIS server you control, you can:

  • Delete the App from your device to remove all locally stored data.
  • Contact your FastGIS server operator to request deletion of server-side data.

If you have questions about this policy or your data, contact us at epiesasha@me.com.

7. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page will change when we do. Material changes will be announced in the App's release notes.
