Deleting your account now reaches the desktop

The desktop planner keeps a few things of its own for your account: your settings, your sketch, your projects, your riding modes. Until today, deleting your account did not remove them, and a copy of your data did not include them. Both now do.

What was missing

The desktop runs behind its own small server, with its own store, next to the rest of FastGIS. When you deleted your account, the main service removed your routes, library, rides and everything else, but it had no way to reach that store. Your desktop settings, sketch and projects stayed there, and so did the desktop's sign-in records, which hold your username and email. The data export left them out too.

We checked before and during the fix: no rider who had deleted an account had desktop data left behind in production, and the store was never backed up.

What happens now

  • The moment you delete your account, every desktop tab you have open is signed out and its sign-in record is deleted.
  • At the end of the 30-day window, your desktop settings, sketch, projects, riding modes, old star ratings and generated roadbooks are deleted with the rest of your content. Cancel during the window and they are there as you left them.
  • Your account is only removed once the desktop has confirmed. If it cannot be reached that day, the deletion waits and finishes on the next day's run.
  • The store's write log on disk is rewritten every day, so deleted data does not linger in it either. Before this it had never been rewritten.

Your data export

A copy of your data now carries two more files: desktop.json, with your desktop settings, projects, sketch, riding modes and ratings, and, kept apart, desktop_derived.json, with what the desktop worked out for you (your tier, feature settings and generated roadbooks).

The desktop's account page lists what it keeps.
